Timeless Modern Bathroom Design
Project Harlan Haven | Completed Summer 2024 | Designer Montana Rae | Location Edgewater, Colorado
A bathroom should transcend functionality, serving as a personal retreat that reflects your unique style and provides daily comfort.
This project exemplifies the fusion of classic craftsmanship and modern design. Deep forest green cabinetry provides a bold, timeless statement, enhanced by sleek gold hardware that adds understated luxury.
A soft, round backlit mirror introduces a contemporary glow, while geometric hexagon floor tiles maintain a crisp, fresh aesthetic. Crown molding and paneled walls infuse warmth and tradition, harmonizing with the space's clean lines.
The result? A bathroom that feels sophisticated, serene, and completely custom.

Design Array
How it started…
This small bathroom, the only one in the home, had a cramped and dated layout.
Guests were immediately met with slatted bifold doors concealing a storage closet—an awkward feature that blocked the bathroom door if left open.
Inside, the space featured a tiny vanity, basic porcelain tile, an outdated toilet, and a standard shower/tub combo.
One bright spot was the east-facing window, which brought in beautiful natural light—a feature we knew we could build around as we reimagined the space.
A Total Transformation
Our goal was to craft a bright, relaxing bathroom oasis that seamlessly blends natural elements with enhanced functionality.
Reclaiming Storage in a Narrow Space
One of the top design challenges was creating counter space. The narrow layout only allowed for a very small vanity, with little room to add surface area or storage. To avoid losing functionality after removing the original closet, we repurposed its alcove and created a custom built-in vanity with enclosed storage.
From Concept to Focal Point
We began with a simple 3D concept and refined the design as we selected the color palette and finishes, knowing this custom piece would become the visual anchor of the wall. Its deep green cabinetry and brushed hardware brought character and practicality to what was otherwise an overlooked corner.
Smart Budget, Smart Choices
The homeowner chose to keep the existing tub and shower surround, which allowed the budget to stretch further in other areas—including new cabinets, a sliding shower door, and quality hardware upgrades that elevated the entire space.
Maximizing Every Inch
On the wall opposite the shower, every decision was driven by efficiency. Finding a sink base that fit the tight dimensions was tricky, so we refreshed the existing one with paint, a new faucet, and updated hardware. A wall-mounted soap dish and open shelves added style without sacrificing space, offering room for flowers, candles, and essentials.
Finishes that Elevate
Turkish cotton towels now hang from gold hooks and bars that echo the room’s other warm metal tones. In contrast, matte black lighting and accents bring a modern edge. Custom wainscoting and crown molding add a layer of sophistication, elevating the finish throughout.
The Transformation Beneath It All
Sometimes the most meaningful transformation lies beneath the surface. Before any finishes could be applied, the walls and ceilings were scraped and smoothed with joint compound to eliminate the heavy orange peel texture. This subtle but essential step gave the space a clean, modern canvas.
